Shared Dreaming – does it exist?

I’ve been coming across a lot of accounts of shared dreaming. For those who don’t  know, that’s when two or more people share the same exact dream or when someone communicates with another person via a dream.

This idea comes up when talking about Lucid Dreaming a lot. People mainly ask, “since you’re in a dream and can do anything, you can go to other people’s dreams, right?” Well, no one really knows. There’s accounts, but those are just that — accounts. There’s also the Lucid Crossroads. It’s a place “created” quite a while ago where lucid dreamers could gather together and pretty much just hang out or do some dream karate in the dojo. Not many people have claimed to visit this place, and the ones who have claim they haven’t seen anyone else there.

What do you guys think? Does shared dreaming exist? Do you have any accounts or
experiences to share?

Take the poll!

  1. I am very interested in lucid dreaming and excited to find this site!
I have had vivid dreams since I was about 5 years old, moreover many lucid dreams. When I was a child I was able to wake myself up from any dream, but to do this I would have to find a flight of stairs in my dreamworld and run to the top – then I would hurl myself headfirst down them hoping to hit my head hard – this would wake me up.It was to my horror that I found on occassions I didn’t hit my head hard enough and had to run all the way back up them and try again!!!! (Meanwhile being chased by monsters and doctors….)
To answer the question I have had two shared dreams-one with my female friend on a lazy afternoon we both fell asleep in the same room and woke up, both addmitting we had been having intense sex in our dreams with each other!!…The other was with my boyfriend, but this dream is harder to explain-It was early in the morning and when we awoke, we were amazed to find that we both knew that we had met in the dream-It was as if our emotions, or our souls were tousling above our heads in bed and we were very disturbed by the feelings and the vivedness of our unconcious meeting…
I would love to hear of others experiences and thoughts about lucid dreaming!!

  2. You’d hurl yourself off the top of stairs to wake up? Now that’s interesting. Especially that being chased by doctors has the same effect on you as monsters! That could be bad, i’m studying to be a doctor 😛

I like how your shared dreams are all about sex. Man, you must have some intense energy, lol.

I haven’t had any shared dreams, but i can’t wait to experience one!

  3. I am a clinical hypnotherapist and registered counselor in the state of Washington. About 20 years ago I did research into this question using hypnotic regressions. I found evidence that people do share dreams and can recall under hypnosis the same events (without guidance, of course).

From that research I have come to believe it is much more common than we realize in our waking state. The Senoi consider the dream state to be as real as the waking state and treat it with the same sensitivity and respect.

  6. Shared dreaming exists, but its not for the waking world. Lucidity brings order to the free-associating dreaming mind, which has the effect of waking one up. The lower energy of the brain at rest/sleep results in many autonomous pockets of tiny energies which communicate with each other via emotion/chemistry. This state of mind is not structured with the order of time nor space as the waking mind is, and has the beneficial effect of rebalancing the brain’s chemistry. The sensation of falling or accellerating is analagous to the energies in the waking mind getting greater and greater until you re-connect with the spine/body and become awake. This is probably why Katalin was trying to “fall” within her dreams.

  7. I’ve had one shared dream verified (though probably countless others that could have been shared dreams though it’s difficult to approach people and ask them without them thinking you are quite mad). This one was a very weird experience and left me in no doubt about the existence of shared dreaming and furthermore the existence of a dreamstate which we all share.

In my dream I woke up in my bed to find that my girlfriend (of the time) wasn’t there. I knew something was wrong so I got up and walked downstairs and into the living room. My girlfriend was asleep on the sofa and there was also a man there who I instinctively knew meant her harm. He looked directly into my eyes and showed me a knife while smiling at me. I then woke up (for real this time) and my girlfriend wasn’t there. I panicked a little and rushed downstairs and into the living room where my girlfriend had just woken up on the sofa and was distraught. After I had calmed her down she told me of her dream it matched the one I’d just had, only from her perspective. It is to this date the strangest experience I have ever had. This happened around 20 years ago.

I found your site today after searching for “lucid dreaming” of which I had my first experience just 2 nights ago. I was very excited to know that I was dreaming and could take control – I found that the best way to deal with falling (which usually wakes me up) was not try to flap my arms (I obviously can’t fly or turn into a bird) but just “know” that I could survive the fall and land on my feet. Incidentally, I mentioned I couldn’t turn into a bird in my dreams but I can turn into a cat – even better at surviving falls and definitely worth a try for anyone who wakes on falling.

I have had another 2 lucid dreams since the first – I think I have the knack of it now and I’m looking forward to more experiences of this kind.

  8. hey um like 5 years ago i had a very scary dream were my first crush and now girlfriend were at shcool at the elementry school were we went at the time. in this dream we were in line for something at school and when i turned around to say hi to her she shot me point blank in the head and i just blaked out no waking up or moving to a new dream i just was in the darkness. the next day i found out that she had the same dream but after she killed me she took me to her house and raped me. it was quite disturbing and im wondering what this means aspesialy now that were together

  9. Ive experienced what id call the consciousness of animals snake etc. ,continuance of a timeline including others lives, remembering in them is always an illumination,in one i become aware of reality as illusion eventually being shown by an old man a worlds creation after having been taken thru my physical death. An early one was of coming into conscious awareness(a birth)in a nebulae.(i imagine it to be)

  10. I had the same dream!!!!!

  11. Hmm, Interesting subject . I cant say I have interacted with some one I know and that they then remember the dream. However I notice that when Im lucid and I interact with people that I know they are generally very vague or a little drunk even. But then I have met people and had normal conversations with while LDing and we have talked about actually being lucid and have comented on the other “normal” dreamers who are not really aware.
INMO its that most people who are on the dream plane (or astral or whatever) are generally sleeping and are NOT lucid hence the vague / punch drunk attitude. But if you are lucid you can find (and I often look for) other LDers on the same plane as you. None of my friends LD so I cant say if I can reach them or not.

  12. One incredible LD of mine. I was befriended by a group of ” dream travellers” who all were lucid and spent their time together moving through the dream scape and had been doing so for a very long time. I spent that dream with them learning new tricks of flying, teleporting and other amazing stuff. Needless to say I have not run into them again. if anyone spots a troupe of people dressed in medieval attire flying around in their LDs , say hello!.

  13. IT IS EXISTED…. TRUST ME

  14. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA DELIVERANCER! I rarely have vivid dreams, but they do happen. What I really want to know how to do is have a more vivid and realistic daydreams. But I dont want to have to fall into deep sleep. My friend says he likes to take a walk around school in class in his head and he can control his daydream while talking with me. In his little daydream he can have his eyes open, though he prefers having his eyes closed, and says it’s almost in HD and can see each individual pine on a pine tree. Unfortunately, when I try to do what he does i close my eyes and see nothing but darkness and occasionally stuff that looks like stars, circles, flashes of color, etc. I think I am just still looking through my eyes and just seeing my eyelids and I would like to know how to go straight to imagining pictures, events, and do what my friend does. One last thing, when dreaming I often cannot speak or walk/run in my dream and it gets rather annoying. An answer to these questions would be so helpful! Thanks 🙂

    • Thats amazing your friend is a fucking pro, a natural, I cant wait to get on his level that’s intense. Let those images in your eyelids sort of hypnotize you. It takes practice to OBE but with meditation you will get it.

    • Oh yes, meditation is the elixir of visualization, everyone should do it as it aids in concentration, and especially visualization. It takes a while because it is a brain exercise, an exercise we do not do enough. To improve visualization you should find a meditation online that specifically improves that area, but essentially all you would be doing is picking an object you know and trying to perfect it in your minds eye, its harder than one may think. I believe people can do just about anything, as long as their mind is ready. Its never happened to me, yet. When I was little I had vivid nightmares (I’ve always been a fool for the gore films) all the time, I remember them being so awful I would go lucid, wake myself up, or stand up to my dream terrorists. I remember having a dream about being on a cottage style farm, as I approached the home on the property I went inside. Inside I saw an old man hunched over in a chair in a dark room, his skin was rotting off to the point where his face was unrecognizable, I immediately ran outside and he began to chase me. I ran up a steep gravel hill until he started gaining on me, that’s when I realized I was dreaming and my dream self turned around to inform the rotting old man that this was my dream and he’s just going to have to leave me alone. He was more than obliged to respect my dream world and he turned and left. I’ve also stood up to IT the Steven King killer clown, George Clooney in a second hand store, and Chucky from Childs Play. I don’t have such dreams anymore, but just a couple days ago a dream that really disturbed me came to pass, so the dream weirdness is far from over.

  16. The Lucid Crossroads is being transformed. See http://www.indiegogo.com/lucidcrossroads to watch the hub of the dream world perfect itself!

  17. I too believe in shared dreams. A while ago, back when I was two years old, I had a nightmare. It was only shortly after my beloved grandfather passed away. I saw a figure in a dark, torn, black cloak. He was stood in a field, on a very misty night. He started walking closer to me. He said he never wanted to leave me and that he loved me. He told me that he wanted to me to go with him. I woke up and started crying. My mum came running over to me and asked me what happened. I told her I saw my grandfather.

It turns out that she had the same dream, only my grandfather was asking for her permission to take me. She started screaming no and woke up. She ran to me to make sure. After that dream, not only do I believe in shared dreams, but the afterlife. Heaven.

R.I.P Granddad, we miss you so much.

  20. I can’t find info anywhere on this, but I’ll explain what happened to me, and this is not a lie, fabrication, or misinterpretation by any means.

At the time I was single, I just got out of a relationship. The girl subject in my dream would soon in reality become my future girlfriend, but we both obviously had no intention of this at first, as she was still in the falling out segment of a relationship with a somewhat distant friend of mine. Kind of a crazy beginning I know, but let me continue.

One night during deep sleep, I remember being in a pink somewhat foggy scene. In this dream I saw myself, and my future girlfriend, I remember being a spectator as well as being myself in the dream in first person, definitely a first in changing personal perspectives while in a dream. We were having extremely potent sexual intercourse. The best way to describe it was the most intense love making I have ever experienced. It came in scenes, it was like a camera cutting to another camera, but all part of my perspective, but then back to myself, then we both meshed together and rotated in the air, with I would say silk sheets flowing in the air with us, almost like zero gravity. It was by far the most intense love I have ever felt, beyond earthly love if i could go so far to say that.

I didn’t really have established feelings at that moment in my life for this wonderful girl, we were just friends, or maybe more than that and we just didn’t know we knew, ya know? So to have this dream, and such a lucid realistic one at that, and so powerful and magnificent, was amazing to me, but very upsetting as I felt like a bad friend, I felt like I had done something wrong, even though I thought it was just a dream, something stuck with me after that night. I felt something for her after, and regardless, I needed to tell her about my dream, I HAD too, it was just too much, and for some reason i felt like she maybe knew about it, somehow I felt like it would not come as a surprise to her. So I texted her early after I woke up, with the lucid dream fresh on my mind just like a fresh new real life experience. and explained to her what happened. After I sent the message I felt extremely weird after, anticipating her response, I felt just wrong for even approaching her about it, but to my most absolute surprise, she said and I quote ” WHAT! CALL ME NOW”.

So I called her, and she began explaining to me that she had had the SAME exact dream as me, down to the last detail. We both had PHYSICAL marks from where I gave her bruises from sucking, like a hickey, and I had scratches ALL over my back from where she explained she scratched me. My jaw dropped to the floor as I could barely contain what she was telling me. She claims she never slept with or fooled around with anyone that night, and I strongly believe her, as she is a very honest and sweet girl.

About 2 months later, we ended up together after I had multiple singular dreams where my subconscious was somehow leading me to her. I asked her out, and we have been together ever since, going on 3 years now and were both very happy together.

I just cannot find another story out that remotely close to mine, and I was in hopes of getting some feed back, as well as just getting the story out there.

    Happy Lucid Dream!

    • me and my girlfriend have just started shared dreaming and it surprised us, we were even more surprised to find that i gave her a hickey in the dream and she had it in real life when she woke up. and i had dreams of precognition about my girlfriend since i was 5.

  21. I always wondered if shared dreams occur in higher fashion, call it a mass shared dream that that is joined by many possibly millions? it would have to be a sub conscious function, that many, possibly everyone, is unaware of.?

the reason I ask this is because, I am a Lucid Dreamer, in fact I might even be taking it to a new level, because in my dreams. I AM A GOD!!!! I can control almost everything in my dreams. except what some of the other people in my dreams are doing.

any thoughts on this? let me know please.

  22. i have been having precognition since i was 4 and just a few days ago me and my girlfriend had a shared dream, we didn’t know it at first till we talked about it the next day then that b=night we had another i didn’t remember then we had ANOTHER one last night i remember clearly. but the thing that scares em even more is that i gave her a hickie in the dream last night in somewhere she couldn’t reach, and she woke up with one this morning. someone please tell em whats going on I’m still getting used to the precognition but this on top of it is terrifying but cool

  23. I have visited many times a place that reminds me of “Second Life” or something, but I’m always doing sexual things there, generally “in public,” as my lucid dreams rarely last long, although they ALWAYS longer there. I can sense that some “entities” there are looking for a shared experience of the same nature, but it’s always rushed, because I know I’ll run out of time soon. Last night I was able to get there four times, and found the same entity three of those times. She seemed to get tired of me dematerializing or fading out or whatever, but she was also impressed that I kept coming back to find her. She gave me a name that was surprisingly real, but I forget it. The third time I visited last night, I asked to be connected with her, and a voice said “analyzing last three interactions,” then binged, so I left a message apologizing.

I don’t know, the layout is often like a mall, and if I go outside, there’s a larger world there. My third time phasing in, I was on a bus, pulling in to the “mall,” and I quickly pulled myself through its wall so I could dart about and find her again.

What’s most interesting is how these “shared dreaming” experiences are always more detailed and almost always last longer. I can also pull myself back into them after waking up, though four times is a maximum.

In total I gave two orgasms, received none, and left one entity feeling frustrated, not including myself.
